Tracking town-by-town excess deaths in New Jersey by race and poverty

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, cities and towns with the greatest number of deaths were often those with higher Black, Hispanic and Asian populations, an NJ Advance Media review of deaths from March through June found. The analysis compared overall deaths in each community in 2020 with the number of deaths they experienced in 2018 and 2019. The trend line shows a racial disparity, with excess deaths growing as a community's non-white population increases.
