The average number of daily COVID-19 cases rose after Horry County lifted its face covering mandate

Horry County had a face covering mandate in place from July 3 to Oct. 30, but then allowed it to expire. Then, the daily average of COVID-19 cases in the unincorporated areas of the county rose significantly. Meanwhile, Myrtle Beach kept its mandate in place and saw only a slight increase in cases in the same period.

Note: This chart uses daily COVID-19 case data from the South Carolina Dept. of Health and Environmental Control. For the unincorporated areas of Horry County, we used zip codes: 29566, 29568, 29588, 29579, 29527 and 29544. For Myrtle Beach we used the zip codes 29572 and 29577.
