Durham and Orange counties have been collecting money for transit since 2011 and 2012. The sales tax revenues, plus car rental and registration fees, were set aside for future light-rail costs or spent on buses, new bus services and amenities. The light-rail costs shown below represent only a portion of what's been spent on that project and do not include revenues or expenses since July 2018. That information will be released this summer.
