Climbing employee headcount at Chicago Public Schools

Staff headcount at Chicago Public Schools has climbed significantly since 2019, when the last contract kicked in. School support headcount has increased by 3,562 positions, or 34.1%, since then, while citywide support headcount has increased by 2,225.5 positions, or 51.2% in the same span, according to the Civic Federation.

School support positions include teacher assistants, special education classroom assistants, security officers and cooks. Citywide support include social workers, school psychologists, nurses, school bus aides, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, and administrative positions.
