Death penalty status by state

The death penalty has been a topic of conversation amongst many state governments for centuries, with states such as Michigan abolishing the death penalty in 1847. Although the majority of states have the death penalty, many of them have not used it in a long time. Ten of the 27 states who have active death penalties, haven't held an execution in the past ten years. In that same time, Missouri has performed 20 executions.
