California’s Homeless Population Increased 24.3% From 2018 To 2020

In California, 70% of people experiencing homelessness in 2020 were considered “unsheltered,” meaning they lived on sidewalks, in tent encampments, abandoned buildings, in cars or anywhere else outdoors. This was the highest share of any state.
