California covid-19 hospitalization increases

State health data show that hospitalizations have increased over a recent three-week stretch more sharply than at start of the summer 2020 surge, and almost as quickly as at the beginning of the dire winter surge. Each data point shows the percentage change from Day 1 of that hospitalization surge.

Note: Hospitalized patient totals increased from 1,089 to 2,164 during the current surge, from June 29 to July 19; from 3,428 to 6,126 in the first three weeks of the summer surge, from June 18, 2020, to July 8, 2020; and from 2,537 to 5,199 in the first three weeks of the winter surge, from Nov. 1 to Nov. 21.
