Black Representation in the Maryland State Police Decreased by 43% Over the Past 20 Years 

In 2003, the Maryland State Police had 304 Black troopers out of a total of 1,562 filled trooper positions. By 2021, Black troopers decreased by 43% to 172 total. In that same time frame, whites and other minorities increased.
