About one-third of districts said they've recently made a change to leveling. Most changes reduced the amount of leveling or tracking.

Forty-five districts said they had made a change since the start of the 2019-20 school year. A few made multiple changes. Seven, like Newton, introduced some form of mixed-level classes, where students in the same classroom earn different types of credit. Just three said they increased the amount of leveling in their schools.
