Poverty’s Uneven Effects in Philadelphia

The city’s overall poverty rate fell to 20.3% in 2023, the lowest this century. But poverty’s effects were largely split along racial and ethnic lines, with Hispanic and Black residents experiencing poverty far above the citywide rate, and white residents far below it.
