New area code overlay for the 559

A new area code, 357, will be added as an overlay to the existing 559 area code that covers much of Fresno, Kings, Madera and Tulare counties. The California Public Utilities Commission approved the overlay in December 2023 to add more available phone numbers to the region.

The 559 area code is expected to run out of available three-digit phone number prefixes by September 2025. The new 357 area code will be assigned for new telephone numbers after prefixes are exhausted in the existing 559 area code.
