Switzerland is dependent on the international exchange of organs

If an organ does not immediately find a compatible recipient in Switzerland, it is offered in neighbouring countries, and vice versa. In recent years, Switzerland has imported more hearts than it has exported. Four out of five hearts transplanted into children in Switzerland come from abroad.
