A Montana example: Precipitation, but low snowpack

Precipitation in Montana's northern Rocky Mountains was above the 30-year average in winter 2025-26, but at low- and mid-elevations, much of it fell as rain or the snowpack melted early. Data from a mid-elevation site in Glacier National Park illustrates the precipitation divide.
