Most political conventions are held in the east and midwest

Parties pick convention locations in part to build regional support. Some cities have held only Republican conventions; others have held only Democratic ones. Other cities have hosted both parties, sometimes in the same year, as Chicago did in 1884, 1944, and 1952; Philadelphia did in 1948, and Miami Beach did in 1972.
