What the pandemic did to Idaho: 1,700+ more lives lost

This chart shows how many more, or fewer, Idahoans died each month in 2020, compared with the average for 2017-2019. (December's data are incomplete.) The COVID-19 pandemic has been an exceptionally deadly time for Idaho. The year began with a lower number of deaths in Idaho. But after the coronavirus arrived, deaths surged beyond average almost every month.

Numbers are preliminary and subject to change, especially for December. Data show resident deaths that occurred in Idaho or out of state. Data from death certificates with known cause of death, filed with the state as of Jan. 19, 2021.
