Here are the top reasons books have been challenged, banned over the past five years

The American Library Association tracks the top 10 most challenged books nationally, basing its lists on media stories and voluntary reports. The most frequently cited reason for challenging a book was LGBTQ+ content.

Challenges are attempts to remove or restrict materials based on content, including challenges to library, school and university materials. Repeat books that appeared in multiple years are only counted once.
