Nonprofits that spend 35% of their budgets on overhead expenses like information technology and staff training are better at drawing large audiences than those with lower or higher overhead ratios, a study found. The researchers analyzed data derived from 22,328 museums, theaters and other U.S. arts and cultural nonprofits from 2008 through 2018.
