Food insecurity rate changes in farming counties

This map shows the food insecurity rate change from 2013 to 2023 in all 444 farm-dependent counties. Overall, food insecurity rates in farm counties increased by 11.7%, much higher than the national average.

The USDA classifies most counties based on their main economic activity. For instance, the USDA defines farming-dependent counties as those where 25% or more of the average annual earnings or 16% or more of jobs are in agriculture.
