42 States + DC Have SNAP Error Rates High Enough to Trigger Cost-Sharing Requirements

18 states with Republican Senate delegations, 13 with Democratic delegations, and 2 with split delegations would face penalties. The Alaska Carveout grants a temporary exemption from cost-sharing to states with error rates at or above 13.34 percent. 3 Republican states and seven Democratic jurisdictions qualify.
State party classification based on current U.S. Senate delegations. States with senators of different parties are classified as split. Cost-sharing tiers: 5 percent of benefits for states with error rates between 6–8 percent, 10 percent for 8–10 percent, and 15 percent for states at or above 10 percent.
