NAEP average 8th grade math scores

Maryland public school students' math scores exceeded their national peers' with statistical significance from 2007 to 2013 and were significantly lower in 2022 and 2024.

Scores are from assessments given to representative samples of students and are on a 0-500 scale. 1990, 1992 and 1996 scores are from assessments that lacked accommodations for students with disabilities and English language learners, which led to the exclusion of some students.
