Maryland’s new housing permits dwindled during Moore’s term
The state said last year that it needs 155,000 additional housing units by 2030 to meet demand. But local officials have authorized less than half that amount over the last four years.

More than 22,800 housing units were authorized in 2022. That number slowed to just over 13,200 in 2025. State officials have said they need 30,000 permits approved each year to meet demand.
