Illinois jails recorded over 5,500 restraint chair incidents in five years

The Illinois Answers Project requested records from the state's 92 county jails from 2019 to 2023. The number of known restraint chair incidents is likely an undercount of the true total, as a handful of jails denied the request, lost records or never made a record when someone was restrained.
