Utility Water and Wastewater Needs and Requirements (billons of dollars)

A March 2025 McKinsey analysis found that the gap between the funds available to upgrade aging infrastructure and the need could almost double by 2030, from $110 to $194 billion. It's unknown at present how much shifts in federal funding, including decisions not to disburse Bipartisan Infrastructure Law allocations, might affect these numbers.
