Harvard Business School is nicknamed “The West Point of Capitalism.” From Michael Bloomberg to Sheryl Sandberg, the school has groomed many of the top leaders in nearly every business sector. There is one area where the school doesn’t excel: High pay for graduates entering general management. In fact, HBS lags behind Stanford, MIT Sloan, Wharton, and Kellogg in starting pay here. This year’s big news centered around Columbia Business School, whose 2015 general management graduates nabbed the highest average pay at over $129,000. This year, the numbers plummeted to $117,200, a number more in line with the school’s rank. Even in a good year, CBS would’ve been hard-pressed to compete with Stanford, whose graduates collected $143,333 — a number no doubt goosed by a $450,000 paycheck landed by one of the 21 Stanford students who entered general management in 2016.
