Spending slowdown cutting into sales-tax revenue

Miami-Dade consumer spending isn't growing like it did last year or the year before, causing concerns about the county's sales-tax funding. This chart shows year-over-year change in three different sources of sales tax. One is the half-percent sales tax dedicated to transportation. Another combines three taxes charged in Miami-Dade hotels, which total 6 percent. The third is a portion of Florida's 6 percent sales tax shared with local governments. The graphic compares the most recent revenue figures for the 2017 fiscal year, which began Oct. 1, to revenue from the same point in time for the last two years.
