This year, for the first time, the Securities and Exchange Commission required publicly traded companies to disclose the ratio of their chief executive's total compensation to that of the company's median employee. The 51 Philadelphia-area companies that have made the disclosure are ranked below by the ratio.

The disclosure requirement went into effect for fiscal years started Jan. 1, 2017, or later, which means some high-profile companies in the region, such as Campbell Soup Co. and Toll Bros. Inc., have not yet had to share the information.
